New on iTunes: Corigliano's One Sweet Morning, co-commissioned by the New York Philharmonic and the Shanghai Symphony, received its world premiere in October by the New York Philharmonic, led by Music Director Alan Gilbert. Stephanie Blythe was the mezzo-soprano soloist in the twenty-eight minute song cycle on themes of war. The work will have its Shanghai premiere with mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke and the Shanghai Symphony in May 2012.
Venezuela's legendary El Sistema orchestral network concluded its all-Corigliano festival - its first ever featuring a living composer. An evening of chamber work complemented two successive evenings of orchestral works, including Symphony No. 1, Clarinet Concerto, Pied Piper Fantasy, Violin Concerto: The Red Violin, and To Music.
Corigliano heads to Miami in December to serve as composer-in-residence at the American Masterworks String Festival: the program includes the American premiere of STOMP, his scordatura bluegrass étude for solo violin commissioned by the Tchaikovsky Competition.
